Why I Started Writing

In the last week or so I’ve been asked to explain my blog more than once and to more than one person. Either because they happened to come across it or because I asked for their advice, my blog has been a topic of conversation. This got me thinking about why exactly I began writing on this topic in the first place.

If you’ve read any of my blog posts, especially the most recent ones, it’d be easy to assume that I am writing a blog about traveling and the best places to go and things to see. In part, you are not wrong. My passion for traveling seemed like a good enough reason to start my blogging path there. The more I think about it, however, I realize that I originally started on this topic because I wanted to explore why I started to travel and the reasons why I continue to make it a priority. I realized that I didn’t begin writing about travel simply because I wanted to see the world, but rather because I wanted to focus on the things that mattered and I thought traveling would be a good avenue to do that.

The more I think about it, I realize that it isn’t simply traveling that has given me a purpose, but rather it is focusing on things that matter and letting the things that don’t, go. The way this has manifested for me is by focusing less on materials and more on experiences. Focusing on travel has quite literally forced me to do this. Traveling is expensive and if you want to travel you need to stop spending all of your money on other things and focus on savings. However, as someone who likes to stop at The Niche every time they have a sale, this is easier said than done.

The purpose of my blog is to focus less on materialistic things and more on adventures by focusing on living a simpler life. I am still figuring out how to do this and will likely continue to explore this topic in more blogs to come.
